What is an SMM company? What do SMM companies do?

SMM Company. Activities of SMM Agencies. Expectations of Entrepreneurs.

I have been working in the field of sales and marketing for nearly 10 years. I often notice the benefits of having entered marketing through sales. This is because, both during the trainings I have attended and in meetings with entrepreneurs, marketing specialists without understanding sales It is not very difficult to see the negative consequences of the marketing activities they conduct. In recent years, against the backdrop of the growing number of SMM companies, these unmeasured processes have also by turning the company's direction in the wrong direction make the work of entrepreneurs somewhat more challenging. The purpose of this article is by no means to criticize the companies in the market or my competitors. Every company tries to add value to its customers in its own way. It’s just that, in order to notice such damage, they either lack the experience or do not have enough time due to working with too many clients…

Looking at the issue from the other side, the situation is not so encouraging. Just as not all SMM companies are professional, not all entrepreneurs are successful entrepreneurs. One common situation I often encounter is that the entrepreneur does not know exactly what they want from the agency. Due to the lack of a clearly written strategy, precise goals, and proper expectations both internally and from the agency, they are unable to communicate their vision effectively, and ultimately, they are dissatisfied with the results. Here, I will not criticize the entrepreneurs. Having been one myself, I understand that their workload is genuinely heavy. I will not delve into leadership or team management issues, as that is not our topic. For now, let’s focus on the shared challenges in the market.

What should an entrepreneur pay attention to when choosing an SMM company?

"First of all, it is essential to understand that just as every employee has strengths and weaknesses, agencies also have their own strong and weak points. Some excel in creativity, others in production quality, some are very responsive, and others create outstanding content. So how can businesses make the most of an agency’s strengths? The key solution to this problem lies in the brief and communication culture. In other words, you need to clearly and patiently convey your ideas to the agency, engage in mutual discussion, and articulate the results or outcomes you expec. Businesses do not respond well to vague terms like 'good.' Avoid using ambiguous expressions such as ‘good work,’ ‘good sales,’ ‘wow video,’ or ‘amazing idea.’ Convey information clearly and as detailed as possible so that everyone—from the agency’s account manager to the designer, and from the content manager to the videographer—understands your vision. Although this process may feel exhausting at first, as they say, once the work gets on track, you will both breathe easier and be satisfied with the results.

Work done. Portfolio

Smaller markets have their own unique advantages. One of these is the ability to quickly gather necessary feedback about a company. Believing what is said about an SMM agency without conducting your own research is one of the ways to risk unsuccessful results. 'Anyone can talk.' Do not rush into a decision without an initial meeting and portfolio analysis. Most agencies tend to perform better in 3–4 specific areas, which is even more pronounced in the global market. Agencies usually define their focus from the start. Some specialize in restaurants, others in fashion, construction, or service industries, building stronger portfolios in those areas. The skills of the agency team members also play a significant role. Another piece of advice is that if you are considering a long-term collaboration, you can first execute a short-term project with the agency to evaluate their capabilities in practice.

Creativity isn't everything.

Bill Gates, who we see everywhere,Content The expression 'it’s perfect' is one of the common misconceptions in this market. Sometimes it reflects the entrepreneur’s desires, other times the agency’s perspective, resulting in pages that focus solely on creativity. This is a very attractive but critical mistake. In such cases, your product or service can easily be overlooked, and it may be difficult to convey your core message. Everyone may applaud your content, but in the end, there are no sales. For this reason, evaluating an agency solely based on its creativity or impressive designs is fundamentally wrong. An SMM company and its team should immerse themselves in your business, understanding it thoroughly; if needed, they should work alongside you in the field to observe your operations and customer behavior, and base their activities on these insights.

“You can’t improve results without measuring them”

One of my bosses often used this expression. It really is. Sometimes, we continue a well-established and enthusiastically started business for months without measuring it. An entrepreneur must first know the measurement criteria and then control this measurement. The number of shared posts, the number of followers on the page, the number of likes on photos are not important criteria. In other words, these are not what bring money to the box office. If your goal is simply to be recognized by more people, these numbers may be important to you, but if the goal is to increase sales, you need to seriously analyze your content and understand what brings the request and who brings it.
